We whipped down to Xi'an for a look at the Terracotta Warriors. Each one is individually crafted and, historians speculate are modelled on actual soldiers in the army, so each one of the 8,000 soldiers has a unique face. They were originally painted and you can still see some pigment on some of them. The weapons have been removed and some are on display in the museum. The weapons were made from copper but coated in chromium to stop corrosion. Amazing technology for something around 2,300 years old.

From Xi'an we backtracked to Beijing from our train through Inner Mongolia, the Gobi Desert and finally to Mongolia, where we are now. The landscape is amazing, the people so friendly and happy. It's one of the best places we've ever been. And that is obviously, where the next email will be from.
